A Season of Change

The maternity session we manifested into existence
There’s something about autumn on the coast that feels a little bit magical. The light softens, the beaches quieten down, and for a brief moment, before winter rolls in and turns all of us into indoor people, you get those evenings that feel almost too good to waste.
This session happened on one of those evenings.

It was the kind of night where, if my calendar had been empty, I would’ve spent the entire afternoon thinking, “Of course the sky decides to do this when I don’t have a shoot planned.” Thankfully, this time I did.
This beautiful mum-to-be had been quietly following along on my page for a little while, tossing up whether or not to commit to a maternity session. It took a little encouragement from a family member to finally book in and honestly, we're so glad she did.
Your first pregnancy is such a strange mix of emotions. Excitement, nerves, disbelief, random googling at 2am. One minute you feel completely ready and the next you’re crying because you can no longer put a pair of socks on comfortably. It’s a season that changes so quickly, and before you know it, the tiny kicks are gone and are replaced with sleepless nights and bottles.
This session felt calm from the very beginning, despite half of the town turning up to also enjoy the last of the warm sun rays. We started out down a dirt road and wandered up into the dunes and then onto the beach. We timed it perfectly, catching the last of the sun before it sunk into the horizon. The weather was still warm enough to dip our toes and the ocean was almost glassy - one final gift from summer.

The light on this evening genuinely did all the heavy lifting for me and as we were heading back up to the carpark, the moon made an appearance to really dial it up a notch. I rarely ever get to coexist with the moon during a shoot so this was a real treat for me. I was very conflicted as to where to point the camera: the glowing moon or the glowing bump.
